I’m part of a fandom again. It looks like this fandom is growing in numbers as each day passes. It looks like I’m staying up way too late (early?) to learn all I can about the fandom. I’m adding friends who are fans, following fans everywhere, staring at gifs for hours, and maybe even I’m RP-ing again (I can’t confirm at this moment in time 🙂 ).
It’s been way too long since I’ve been in a fandom. There is a difference between fangirling over something you’re into and totally submerging yourself into the depths of obsession over a fictional world. I prefer the obsession. I keep it healthy. 🙂 Fandom keeps *me* healthy.
I think back about times I’ve been in fandoms and found family there. I think about the pain and tears of a show being cancelled or a book series ending. I think about how being in a fandom helps me know I’m not alone and that there are others all over and everywhere who are feeling the exact same way I feel about what fictional characters are up to or which direction their lives are heading. I think about the people behind the keyboards. They’re friends. I may never see them other than in text but their thoughts and feelings that they bare publicly help me feel connected and to know I’m not alone.
Fandom is excellent. The void I feel “in between fandoms” is lame. It feels great to be so into something again. It makes me happy and I love feeling happy.
So, the first news I see today is that The Magicians (Syfy) has been renewed for a Season 2. Episode 4 airs tonight and it’s already been renewed! This is incredible. I did another happy dance. (I have been happy-dancing all over lately. This weekend was my 2 year wedding anniversary and yesterday Hale Appleman tweeted at me! YES. He did.) The fandom is just starting out too. And that means it’s beyond on.
The X Files is on tonight along with a plethora of other things-the conclusion to War & Peace on Lifetime among them-and I’m always pen-ready to jot down things to write about. These are all good things.
Happy Monday, everyone! Enjoy your week. I know I will enjoy mine. 🙂
