Poetry – "Made" #NaPoWrimo Day 7

Day 7:

Made
by Jennifer Patino

What of value?–
in their eyes we were worth
what we could do for them

This is not dystopian
It is coming home three minutes past curfew,
angry faces looking red in the lamp shade

“You kids got it made”–
we are made of you   We are misshapen
clay figures you crush with work boots

We are nervous disasters,
self-destructive, sinners, stained,
on the way to Hell, just taking different routes  (know your roots)

“What did we do?”–
in their eyes we were accidents,
chalkdust kids who grew with the same habits they knew
