Poetry – "Transitory Genesis" #NaPoWriMo Day 18

Day 18:

Transitory Genesis
by Jennifer Patino

We leave
sandcastles behind us
in ruins
Our twenties
were a hurricane,
uncategorized
In our wake
we made allies
who disappeared
The closer we got to us,
the further real pain stayed away,
but no eternity existed
For us, forgetting
was everything,
and the clever ways of achieving it
Left us
forever dusting our feet
on unwelcome mats
And our shadows
still dance without us
under a grey-streaked 3 AM sky
