#MicropoetryMonday – May 15 – 21, 2017

Burst of light
 a warning

It was too late
 comets crashed

The floor moves closer
  swallows me

I believe
  I’ll sink through

****

Chilling ice blue
I still melted your glare

Too hot in the kitchen
Too cold the tense air

In a blink, you’re subdued
Jagged edged stare

****

Long before I knew you
I often dreamt of your
 healing touch
I wake to your arms
 around me now
My darling, I love you so much

****

Mountain winds
let me breathe

The hollow tinkling
of neighborhood
wind chimes
let me hold
on to cool weather a little longer

****

She’s never more pretty to me
than in floral prints,
swinging in the sunshine,
smiling gaily
The spring in her step is enchanting

****

Looking out at the old empty
Former cornfield
Spring haze
A desolate gap in the throat
Soothed by the splash of the fish jumping

****

The melted message
on the paper heart
could still be read
with her fingertips
She felt his soul
in every word
floating down the page

****

Take my heart
for strength,
replace my blood with fire
Your sweet breath
will fan my flames
and we’ll burn the world together

****

In your arms
on stormy nights
under the moon
with her
undaunted eye
is total
and complete
serenity
Eclipsed safety
You and I

****

Hummingbirds
Mint & silver
Gentle bullets
or minicopters
buzzing by
after sunrise
Quick company
They pass as quickly
as my fleeting thoughts

****

Humid waves
rise above the horizon

Those dry mountains
They’re keeping my rain clouds away

Earthen bowl barricade,
unmoved

****

Crooked smile,
Irresistible

Bashful,
Unsure

When it’s sent my way,
I’m aflutter

All due to
that little half contour

****

Tattered novels
in back pockets
dashing
from one
accomplishment
to the next defeat,
scholarly boys,
coal rimmed eyes,
oblivious to daylight

****

Overloaded
Keep exhausted eyes on a page
Keep momentum
Keep a starlit idea
Inside a tousled head
While all the buzzing bees stray

****

Sacred sisters

Reflections
in stained glass

Heavy laden with past sins
Warm faces by flickering prayer candles
Forgiveness embodied

****

I picture you
sparkling with sapphire
The moon glints
off your zesty smile
Space case, oddity
leading me to my true home
****

Life sails me
through the calm waters,
the choppy waves,
the vicious gales
and I am tied
to the mast
laughing maniacally
****
I wait
til after the skyfall
for the dance of words
to begin
Clear space
in my mind
to tangle & torment
fluid lines,
jagged edge
****
Rose petal tongue
Pure earth taste
Fruits of the land
Sunshine freckles
 on a gap toothed face
Golden barley waves
Amber rain
 out of place
****
Peering through the jelly
Brackish pond water
Sting of surprise
The frigid ice
Submersion
The night thick
Concealing
Cries for help
****
When harshness
of breathing
is too much,
the air softens
with a single touch
from your calming quiet reserve
More than I deserve
****
Secrets in diaries
Hidden skeleton keys
Enter the realm
of diabolical schemes
Twists and turns
Plots tangled in strings
****
Nature’s tantrum
Indecisive
The wind crashes in on itself
Here we are
Caught up in her pressures
Rolling with her
Waiting out the storms
****
No clear resolution
to find the path
to the final awakening
I tuned out voices
in transition
Focused on the silence
of departure
****
Wood nymph, dancing fae
Adorning violet crown
Dress of buttercups
Golden spring roses
Garden scents surrounding her
Flower jubilee

****

Photosensitive
Sun sparkles
give growth & warmth
to the world
It burns me
My eyes
My skin
I rely on the night
to keep me safe

****

I work up the nerve
to share
with the void

Then grow
worried & anxious
when the void answers back

Media is great
The social part is crushing

****

Burning away
Midnight oil
Spilling trinkets upon pages
Precious gems
Ancient parchment
Buried under dross
Smoke clears
Unwritten

****

Hibiscus and pomegranate
Bitter sweetness
Floral fringes, her lips
Marooned on her island
Her burgundy hair kisses ocean waves
Crimson moon

****

Monarch takeoff
Royal butterflies
Gathering beauty
Flight of fancy
Orange golden cloud
Spring green meadow
On a glittering journey

****

I miss dancing in puddles
Outrunning lightning bolts
Crashing thunder, so powerful
Our wet hands clasped
Our shrieks of delight

****

You
My beautiful anomaly

Thought experiments
We hypothesize our unhappy ending

Still
We dissolve like molecules

Into each other
Again

****

Snapshots dangling
from clothesline

Sunshine squints
sprinkled about the room

We’ve grown apart
but these reminders remain

****

The science of our subtle hints,
our undeniable chemistry

Laws of physics, magnetic forces
draw you closer and closer to me

****

Porcelain snow
Wolf howls ring out
Stars blink signs
Birches hear the wind whimpers
Owl sings as we snuggle close
What’s to come?

****

The energy in the air
Mass confusion
Unsteady
Heady
Eyes in the clouds
Stay ready
One jolt, one bolt
It’s all I need
A jumpstart
To my heart

****

Cut the power
given to distractions
Muses screaming
all around
In other words,
literally,
spoken in others’ words
I can’t hear myself think

****

Summer breeze–
A safe haven

Under trees,
the laser beams of midday rays

Breaking through the shade
–carries my blues away

****

Set myself, as to not forget
myself
Automated message, my own voice
sounds alien
Note to myself: return to sender
Let the rest go

****

Only the moon,
reflected in the dark mirror surface
of the murky lake,
knows what lies beneath
Still, the sign says ‘Safe to Swim’

****

Though these
out of season
chilly winds blow
we’ll be each other’s anchor
Hold tight
Don’t let go
so we won’t get swept away

****

The throaty night frog
becomes a cool crooner
when the summertime symphony
of the night strikes up again

****

Desperate temptation
to pack it in, give it up,
hop that boat to eternity

I forget my plan
when I see you smile
like that at me

****

Wonderstruck
standing in that muddy rust driveway

I said goodbye, hugged you

Flew
like the geese over the port

Leaving home, tough to do

****
With fading energy,
every ounce used
rising up
out of shallow sadness,
ancestors’ songs call & I wake
dancing the blues away
****
Amethyst aura
around that angel
She sings me to sleep
as the glow flows over
Gather those clouds around me
so she can rest her head too
****
Never forgotten,
your words,
your beautiful smile
Your light touched me,
touched everyone
The brightest diamond in the sky
**
Clouds would part & there you’d be
Your words brought smiles
to darkest days
Rest now
Float on pools of lambent light

***

Summer is bleak for me
but your words of positivity
still get me by
I miss you friend
Even if I see you
in the twilight sky

In Memory of Christy, @DusklightMemory RIP

****

There had to have been
a moment, a whole day even,
at some point in my life
where I didn’t come across
a hateful thing
I just can’t
remember
****

Bunkered down
Blackout shades
Oven burns on a fair face
Too close is comfort
Comfort is not close enough
To see whats coming
Out of the dark

****

Growing in numbers
full speed ahead
Aging process,
the wise slow down
Plant seeds,
& spend your days
watching the sprouts blossom

****

Weeds in others’ paths
or gardens
get a chance to
start anew
We were taught medicine ways
The purpose of all parts of creation

****
Art by Carine Bouvard

Clouds would part & there you’d be
Your words brought smiles
to darkest days
Rest now
Float on pools of lambent light

****
With steady hands
you caress my cares away
Kisses put my thoughts
to bed for another day
Whisper my name
Our roaring hearts aflame
****
Popularity
in the old neighborhood
was measured in trade
Baseball cards
in my bike spokes
so they’d always know
I was coming
****
A midnight chandelier
above grandma’s kitchen table
It was a sign for the lost
& the pained
that someone kept a light on for them
****
Blackbirds
Golden worms
Carved out the canyon
The boulders- dark, threatening
Water’s rising
You’re trapped
But I’ll run miles to rescue you
****
Slice of life, cut open
Exposed to those who
still stand there
when you gain consciousness,
unjudging
of your sacred hidden scars
****
Wailing winds of sorrow
from throats of the women
who grieve for the land,
for the children, for the burden
on their backs
****
Suspicious surfaces
One can only skate on
thin ice for so long
Eggshell exterior
We tiptoe around
your broken glass,
too shattered
to notice

****

Sudden squall
Our song playing
on the radio
kept us in the car
Windows fogging
For way too long
So we ended
up saying
all we shouldn’t have

****

At least we’ll run together,
in circles,
until we find another way

Out of synch,
never far from touching,
cycling side by side

****
More
The wall,
inked with
faded declarations
of young love

He was chipped paint
under my peeling wallpaper
and now it’s all
crumbling down

****

Take a deep breath
Inspiration
Flute echoes off the canyons
Hopeful notes
Reminders of creation song
& miles walked in Mother Earth’s honor

****

The past burrows under pine needles
An unexpected light
shined it out of hiding to be faced
& battled against
til shackled feet move forward

****

Heat blurred vision
Counting steps to hear a voice
Heartbeat keeps track

Of which howls are winds,
Wild animals
Or what you’re running from

****

Sleep to escape
chronic pain,
overactive brain

Popping pills
for aching, popping joints,

Not my cup of tea but I envy it*

(* Can be read backwards and forwards)

****

Equal isn’t something
I’m familiar with
Less than (human),
not even (human)?
That’s just how we’re treated
Still, we’re undefeated

****

The idea of a summer night rain,
soothing,
cleansing

I’ll have to settle
for pre recorded sounds of it
when the sky is clear

****

He said,
“Follow the flowers,
strong hearts”
Wild violets
Footsteps, earth rhythm beat
Hum of life flow
A journey home complete

****

All your leather bound secrets
Journals you kept
We read them by candlelight
& quietly wept
You wrote it all
So we’d never forget

****

Cascading starlight
We lost track of how many
   meteors, surprise kisses
Who’s counting?
Even the sky
celebrates our love

****

Itchy sun
lets me
say goodbye
to the cool days,
darting behind
a cloud

I forgive you
It’s not
your fault
this body
rejects
your brightness

****

Transfigured trinket

Copper locket
rubbed for luck,

For connected,
dangling memories
from the family tree;
We feel you

****

More
One wish
for a ripple
in time
to erase
heartless
things I said
I don’t know
what tomorrow holds
but at least it’s not today

****

Thrill of the open road
Wind in your hair
No destination

It’s never too late
to take that long drive
or take a leap with no net

****

Genesee weekends
Summer plums, apricot nectar
Water fights
Hide n Seek at night
Scraped knees from climbing oak trees
Cousins, best friends

****
The city blinks its codes to us
from the valley down below

Obsidian clouds on an emerald night
whisper messages only we know

****

I love the silhouettes
against
the burnt orange grunge
of a downtown skyline

Shadow sentinels
stand guard,
sheltering us
from the elements

****

Sifting through the torn shreds
of my thoughts not uttered
I’m forever behind

Worn, weathered shutters
Boiling over in truth

****

intensity
shines
behind
thick mascara
your
jasper stone eyes
call every lie
right to my tongue
& I tell you
all you want to hear
out of fear

****

Leaky faucet quiet
No one is home
Cuckoo clock shrieks
Evil comes when you’re alone
Candelabra from flicker to flame
Ghostly game

****

I don’t even like this song
It has hooks in me
Just like your memory
& your brother
still sings it
on repeat
when he’s had
too much
to drink

****

Twinkling opening harpsichord notes
Suddenly, I’m focused
On you, the dance steps, on you,
On the sun highlighting your dimple

****

Thank you, scarlet haired siren
Your lyrics speak directly to me,
Pushing my soul to hang on

****

Can’t I just float
in the shining pool
where you threw
all your moldy pennies
and be all the wishes
you ever asked for?

****

Joy
in the snowflakes
Natural
in my element
Snow banks
icicles
My dreams
don’t let me forget these things
So I
sleep all summer

****

Polaroid picture view
Mist, my favorite filter
It’s real,
this emptiness in my stomach
It’s not all in my head,
this ache for the road home

****

My eyes, viscous jelly
Blurry surroundings
All I see is muddy, wrong

Tide is rising, quickly
All is blue, all is swell
Overtaken, celestial

****

The rain took what happened,
all you didn’t say
& washed it away
You’re in every drain now
I hear you struggle for air
Gasping in all unsaid

****

Cracked knuckles, dry & bleeding
I won’t blame you, shame you
I’ll just beg you to find me
I’ll be the light in the darkness

****

Haiku:

Laughter over coffee
on your foggy morning porch
My soul’s delight

****

My roots may be gnarled
Ancient, deep, thick, brittle, tired
But I’m still standing

****
There’s no recovery
from tasting one dose of
your opium lips

****
With this blank canvas,
I thee wed;   The artist vowed
to paint me pretty
****

VSS (Very Short Stories):

My grandpa
filled grandma’s garden
with little wooden
capricious whimsies
he made from his
own leathery hands.

****

“Oxygen”

Remember life. Keep hanging on
until all oxygen is restored.

****

I never craved the notion of a precise life.
I prefer to be surprised by its bends and curves.
I swim about precariously.
****
We waltzed into your circus, tore you down as ringleader, and fed you to the lions to restore the whimsical menagerie we once knew.
****

My tools become too heavy.
My thoughts, a burden.
Change of scenery, gulp of night air,
a perfect response to a confrontation years ago.
****
The mirror was cursed, or enchanted depending on what you saw reflected. I gazed upon my soul in the glass & never saw a thing more hideous.
****

“Art”
Twilight over the still lake.
My favorite work of art.
****
“Obscure”

Joel would only converse using
obscure 1970s horror film references.

****
“Transparent Vessels”
I landed with a sickening thud, smack in the middle of the dank pit.
Slimy creatures gurgled within their transparent vessels.
****
Infestation occurs, and the bugs travel slowly through the bloodstream.
Over time, their bodies become caricatures of who they once were.
****

“Above”

Pigeons peer from up above
catching my curious, wandering eye.

****
I saw the sunrise the way you would, electric and vibrant.
Your hand patting my head was felt on the morning breeze.

****

“Kisses”

No sleep allowed until we’re
wrapped in cuddles and kisses.

****

WIP (Works in Progress):

“That was weird.”
“You ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” he smirked, opening the double doors,
and leading me into a manic, day glo universe.
****
“I did grab the map. It was just the wrong one. Don’t look at me like that! It’s your fault for wearing that and distracting me!”
