#MicropoetryMonday – June 5 – 11, 2017

Quick note:  I made a mistake last week in my post about the release of Door is A Jar. It won’t be coming out until the fall. I had it confused with one of my deadline dates. Forgive my foggy brain. 😉 Enjoy this week’s scrawls! It’s my birthday on Thursday so I’ll be taking it easy this week but I’ll be really buckling down over the weekend. Deadlines are approaching! Have a good one, everyone!

****

much needed
renewing rain

dust cleanses
aren’t cutting it

charcoal dusk
teases tears

from clouds
from kohl smudged eyes

****

Queen of deflection
Kingdom of backscattered memories
Ruling with a quick tongue and
Falsities twisted
Around innocent necks

****

listen
learn
from the language of your heart

nothing is dead if you
speak it
breathe it

others may not hear
what is only for you
from you

****

Tornadoes — across wrists
–cyclone nerve twists
Barbed wire — encircled
–debris embedded
Lashing out –severely
–forgive me, forgive me

****

She returned

Risen
from volcanic ash

She said
she saw
the most
beautiful
sun

****

She, the silkworm thread he tiptoes
Her thunder
to his lightning declarations
is thin ice
A halo shines
as he falls
& freezes

****

last call never stopped us
we’d embrace all corners
of the wildest nights

we’d dance,
our shadows reaching
for a shining place

****

foreign lands
were never so threatening
when you’ve known this space all along

like a deer, skittish
owl eyes darting
all around

****

So much more can be accomplished,
felt,
released,
acquired,
shared
& spread
when overthinking ends
No search for reason
All just is

****

red candles
barely hang by wicks
rosary beads click
stained glass sill
holy clay vessels
only tears of the faithful could fill

****

choral at dawn
signal of sparrows

a sandy beach
pure summertime

one toe in the riled ocean
the salt breeze makes me sad

****

Quest for bliss
ends in memory gap

One glimpse
it all floods back

Searching for eternal sunshine
finding darkness
of a spotless mind

****

The Red Room
The Lounge
The many names of places
  she could be found

Drop disdain in a wine glass
She’ll see through your mask

****

a looming shadow
crocheting quietly
observing us
like a crow

we are jewels
sewn of jealousy
ignoring pinprick glaring
& sneers

****

We look to
a stone sky

a barrier
we can’t puncture

eyelets
look back

we are tiny
we are specks

helpless
and insufficient

****

retreating to a garden of sounds
more soothing than the cacophony
of the neon city

silence is harsh,
worrisome,
& often loaded

****

to crawl inside
a Gemini mind

duality battle,
no concept of time

a mind so open
cosmic thoughts, unconfined

****

eyes averted
from the fortress
of illuminating mirrors

reflection imprisonment
see what you’ve become
over and over again

****

color her in disaster
paint a shaded film
across her ways

I find her darkness
so inviting

I succumb to her beautiful wrath

****

daydreaming of champagne fountains
galloping horses
stone castle in the distance

all of this in a blink
in cloud portraits
in a shy smile

****

Every solstice
at the lakehouse
under moonless sky
purging the pain
Silver mothwings
curving the body
sparking shivers
crimson rain

****

The allure
of the lone orchid
in the corner

Mesmerizing petals

Magenta center
tinged blue

The surrounding garden
disappears

****

another day
doors slamming

this town is angry
this world is livid

I am lucid

waiting for the comfort of night
to grip me tight

****

Oh, sister

we chased after you
when you ran into the arms

of a severe storm warning;
Now we’re left behind
cleaning after your hurricanes

****

unwritten true stories

the ones
you wouldn’t dare put to print

the ones
only whispered in chambers
where ghosts can hear

****

I am stuck in a sore spot
but my mind roams
all over this house

A creeping fog clinging
to the corners, clutching
humid walls, and rising

****

like glue
every bit of good & grit
would stick

I am an antenna
over-tuned-in
overloaded

til I am overstretched
til there is nothing left

****

I go missing
a hibernating bear in winter
yet it’s summer
the sun is high, piercing
I crave shadow
remembering grass underfoot

****

Rainbow reflections
in the sprinklers.
I remembered as I heard
ours kick on. No fanning
fountains, only gurgling
drippage.

****

Rose gold
Antique tarnish
Figures in rust
Dance on the Autumn horizon
Look! The burnt umber becomes them
Shimmering pillars aglow

****

I could do nothing
but scoff
at this man
claiming to know
what nature
intends

****

The back of your eyelids
is a screen

Your most memorable (unforgettable)
nightmares

play on loop every night;
Secrets don’t sleep

****
The dawn begs us
to listen to her song
Violet ribbons
wrap around clouds
I wave
because I swear
I can see you
up there, sailing

****

haunting laughter

I am not amused
by the ghouls aggrandizing, &

reminiscing about their evil deeds
while the little ones
still can’t sleep

****

It matters not
how far away
I’ve run from

your snares,
your influence,
your lifeless eyes

I still feel
your webs
wrapped around me

****

You hear that?
Brass jazz tones ringing
is the dark velvet lure
of a last night
in a foreign city
you’ll never
return to

or from

****
You look best
basking
in the morning glow
of introspection
I see
your brain
splashing colors
around this
monochromatic room
****
He was the guy
penning every waking thought
onto napkins that
only he could decipher;
We tried to catch his
wandering eye
****
Ensnared
Acid rain in the bloodstream
Murky
A head brimming with silt
Charcoal
In a compressed throat
Oil
Thickens a set of struggling lungs
****

Lily loves lying in meadows
turning her blooming face
to a butterfly’s kiss
She imagines her lover
is there
on the breeze
****
striking scenes of a
beautiful life perfectly
painted upon
worn, whitewashed
walls of the place
you can finally
call home
****
Loss doomed him
to numbness
but he remains
always conscious
of an eternal flame
burning somewhere
in a heart
just for him
****
Words
spark, burn,
cut deeply, make the world turn
Some bring light, others dark
stirring happiness, sadness & madness inside her
****
twisted roots
base of spine
high voltage pulse
sends shocks
thru a body
rocking,
knocking,
coming to rest
on a cold glacier hiding
in a palm
****
transformative animals

phone calls my heart isn’t
really in

and the dust bunny
swallowed to stop
your childish whimpering

****

So many storms.
The blue light added
ambience to the approaching
clouds. Swallowed. In
waves you are swallowed.

****

I am visited
in sleep

cut open
blood replaced

with lightning bugs
who blink

on and off
off and on

all day
under

this meat suit
prison

****

warned against
peering through the keyhole
no uttered prayers from pretty mouths
can prevent imprints of
twisted silk & moonlight

****

we are clowns
with painted smiles
lion tamers
with gleams in our eyes
trapeze artists
smiling in the face of danger
a circus show

****

Captivating stoicism
How courageous
to remain unflinched
under heat lamps
under scrutinous eyes
Charmingly
uncovering lies

****

Making a mountain
Scaling look easy
Necessary
But I can’t even
Crane my neck that high to see

****

the tv screen reflects us
back to us

it’s off

grandad’s sawing logs
dreaming of when he couldn’t
sleep through the worst parts of history

****

Startled awakening

the world was burning
and my ancestors appeared

speaking softly
in the language
my blood understands

****

Longest day of the year
I die a little
I cry a little at the memory
of a distant tundra, a homeland
Summer solstice
Begin Again

****

Reality that sinks in like teeth
It stings,
gets infected
Spreads, spreads, widespread
A portion of the world
cheers on violence
Enough said

****

So many strangers
in my June dreams

They tell me
this is impossible

I’ve seen them,
in my other life,
under strawberry moon

****

a bobcat waited for me
in the gloaming
when I would see
& be ready
for whatever message
he had to deliver
but he just stared
& I understood

****

the journal gleamed
in the moonlight
spotlight
on the bottom of the bureau
tempting me
to read
of all her forbidden places

****

step into the unseen
tread lightly

enter another realm
through midnight moonstone

turn back
turn your back
on its power

look

****

paralytic penance
for failed apologies

they flounder
under the weight of dishonesty,

their broken promises
pinning them down

****

under a spell,
discarded life force,
an opening of glands
you can’t name
electric chemicals interact,
a contagious imbalance

****

still can’t drink the water
but the roof,
it’s stopped leaking

the garden failed
but we eat,
loved,

in a place where everyone is a cousin

****

An expansion occurs
in my body,
my nerves
I call it the summer swell
100 degrees, anomalies,
extraterrestrial cysts
inside of me

****

Winding path of pine needles
Moss hugs an underground creek
Our footprints imprinted on muddy banks
Mighty river calls our names

****

Stressed out. Even the blood in our veins
feels pressure.

****

Sometimes the soul
sees things weary eyes can’t

A lilac mist hangs
in the minuscule hallway

I am a giant
when I come out the other side

****

soon you’re wreckage
washing up on some
island shore
              they call this loneliness
phantom rainfall,
illusioned howls,
arid throat

****

The starling sounds the alarm–

summer is a prison

& you’re too

stifled

to break free

****

I squint
in umber glow
tracing tributaries
on your closed eyelids
ecstatic that there are no
obligations pulling us from this bed

****

that old frayed portrait hung on the wall
nearly burned in effigy
saved from the pyre
one piece of it all
you couldn’t destroy

****

Stitches undone
Patchwork girl with
waterfalls of liquid prisms
falling from button eyes
The red thread smile
ripped out long ago

****

Golden black settles over the yard
9 minutes
Solar eclipse
Enough time to say goodbye
Too bright, the return of light
You’re gone

****

baring and sharing,

the bitter, the ugly, the shame
being true to all aspects

of you,
exudes beauty,
seeps with strength

****

How many sunsets,
full moons,
discoveries
of names
of stars
happened with you?
Countless,
like all the reasons I love you
****
We’re caul babies
born of a vision
born of Red Mother
Ashkaakamigokwe
with the power to dream
protecting the soil
& flowing streams
****
When we wander, leaning
toward forest paths
we find the sky
a new palette of colors
only to return
to the trouble
of dull stasis

****

Final raindrop

A break in clouds
revealing a rainbow,
a promise

A memory fading with the storm

I’ll hold onto you
next time

****

We used our voices to beg them to love the Earth. In raw silence we release our prayers into the ears of the stratosphere.

****

carousel horses
walking on water,
leaping over waves

****

Afternoon alarm
All is wrong
Caught up in gnat traps
In sleep, I deleted contacts
A fool am I
For trusting the eye in the sky-
Failing cloud

****

Tantalizing tunes
of the tenors
trickle over to my tent
tempting me
but I remain tucked away
under tarp of
tenebrous copse

****

Turns of phrase
in blizzards

Worlds are created
in the dark

Snowfall stories,
broken ice

No summer sun
scorching the page

****

Those who miss out
on what comes around
full circle
just need to wait longer
or
slow down,
pay attention,
attempt to evolve

****

I miss chrysalism
I fear the unchanged
clear sky, scent of desert
I think of dependence on water
& calms before
crashing storms

****

The gulf took our tears,
delivered them to the ocean
When we come down
from this lookout tower
We won’t have
feelings anymore

****

the beauty of the morning
is never lost on a night owl

the golden flecks in the shrubbery,
the hummingbirds’ whimsical dance

****

Upon occasion,
the mortician
would welcome
a lively cadaver

A soul still hangin’ on,
body a-twitchin’

****

the bedsheets are blue
she lays entombed in them
I count breaths
& moments spent
without her in them
the bedsheets are blue

****

Dream echoes
Catch them
Like fireflies
    & moonbeams
Keep them in a jar
Watch galaxies form
Travel to the stars
Find your heart
See
Listen

****

All the allure of a citadel
Strong
Distant
Most majestic
   moments before collapse
Who protects you from that?

****

Mi amore
There isn’t much I can say
You know all my secrets

I willingly gave you
Every confession I held
On our wedding day

*

Under sycamore, watching rain
Damp moss pillow
Softly,
how her hair rustled
Gently,
my hand on her face
Mi amore
How you fell

****

Vivacious sprites

Dancing under streetlights
I look on, mesmerized

A heart beating a rhythm
A body frozen
in another time

****

The song of myself
is out of tune these days

An overplucked string,
worn down

The practice of living
at a novice level

****

Golden eyes
pierce
all my
unseen layers
How unexpected,
that you,
being too
far away,
would be
the one
to weaken
& unravel me

****

Kiss of zephyr
Salty tears
Willow tree sway

A blue balloon
Deflated
Caught in fragile fray

–we released you to the air

****

Give me all your mistakes
I want to caress your flaws
I want unedited love
A first & only draft
with smudges
Red ink corrections

****

Summer boredom
Wild idea!
Laundry soap
  on the trampoline
  in the rain
Sea of joy
   and never ending bubbles

****

Sun beating down a
Memory of
Bathing in splendour falls of
Eternal yearning
For cleansing beauty of
Summer afternoon rains

****

Lost on the streets of your heart
Stuck in your derailed thought
   traffic jam
Beautiful disaster
Happy accident
Find me

****

Apple green dapples in eyes

Warm glow
of the laser light show
lighting up your smile

Distraction
from cloud threatened skies

****

Haiku:

close lunar eyes, sing
a lullaby; crescendo
before the big end

****

Putting off reading
the ending of a book
because there’s no sequel

****

Long awaited drive
by, where the old neighborhood
didn’t look the same
****
Between the moon & sea,
what wonders wait for me?
Celestial secrets.
****
Catharsis. Levee
bursts. Sea of suppression setting
the drowning scene.
****
Thought wandering
Perpetual cycles swirl
In mind & coffee cup

****

Solo sunflower
Shy    Hiding behind petals
I am your center

****

Bees hum in mourning
Memory garden    It stings
Grief venom consumes

****

Dear chronic illness,
I have things to do so stop
getting in my way

****

VSS (Very Short Stories):

Yesterday’s newspaper clippings scurry along the gutters like whispered words of longing, in this valley so quiet.
****

It was freezing, but we still went to the lake.
“Clearing,” she said. “Cleansing.”
We shook violently.
Cobalt lips.
It wasn’t enough.

****
“Wind”

Crisp leaf pile keeps silent
waiting for the incoming wind.

****
“Alluring Temptress”
Night, an alluring temptress who kept all his murderous secrets hidden in her cloak. Thoughts of killing haunted him all day.
****
She always smelled of freesia & cotton candy. I remember her using my head as a leaning post. Her tears of heartbreak on the trampoline.
****

Leona had already seen so much magic in this land that dragons who craved compliments were no surprise. She’d avoid cliches.
****

WIP (Works in Progress):

“You can’t let this world change who you–aw, screw it. We’re all changed. There’s no coming back from any of this.”

“I’m glad you woke up.”

****
The boats never came back. Widows wailed into the harbor. Orphaned children wiped away their tears with yellow scarves.

****
“Well, when I die I’ll be remembered as the friend everyone would forget existed for months at a time who never complained.”
****
“No worries. I have coffee and my racing thoughts. I’ll hardly be alone,” she said, practically shoving me out the door.
