#OctPoWriMo – Day 4 – “Somewhere Between”

Somewhere Between // by Jennifer Patino

Somewhere between
Morang & Kelly,
baseball games in the park,
streetlights signaling dark,
& the victorious walks home

Somewhere between
nine years old & ten,
a gift of an antique typewriter,
heavy, bulky, but making my world brighter,
& the little limericks I wrote on my own

Somewhere between,
20 mg of a prescribed drug & 50 mg of memory loss,
I filled notebooks & didn’t speak,
I didn’t eat or sleep for an entire week,
I went somewhere else, all alone

Somewhere between
the clouds & water
is a huge sky, endless & infinite
I won’t be happy until I’m back in it,
poetry embedded in my backbone
