#OctPoWriMo – Day 13 – “Escape”

Escape // by Jennifer Patino

Summers of habitual brooding

We spoke of another Earth
too often, so often that an
extraterrestrial tension with
our productive peers

developed, from a terrain
after the June torrential
downpour, sprouts of
instability, bouts of insanity

They swept our petals
off the dirty floor, repaired
the broken window you
leaped out of when the

sensors uncensored,
unleashed and we
could beam back
to each other somewhere

when the sedatives
released us, to the
air and care of captains
and seconds in command

We’re going down with this spaceship
